258 new cases in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 258 new Covid-19 positive cases on Monday, which took the tally to 69,025, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun.

No new cluster was reported.

Of the 258 cases, Masidi said Kota Kinabalu recorded 71 new cases, followed by Tawau (43), Kudat (36), Keningau (23), Kota Belud (19), Sandakan (11) and Kinabatangan (11).

Beaufort, Semporna, Lahad Datu, Kalabakan, Penampang, Kota Marudu, Papar, Putatan, Kuala Penyu, Tambunan, Pitas and Tenom registered single digit rise in new infections.

He said Semporna had been reclassified from red to orange zone; Sipitang from orange to yellow zone; and Tenom from green to yellow zone on Monday.

Masidi, who is Sabah’s official Covid-19 spokesperson, said existing clusters contributed 30 new cases in Kota Kinabalu, including 27 cases from Tembok Kota Kinabalu Cluster (Kepayan Prison), two from Samedra Cluster and one from Jalan Bundusan Cluster.

In addition, he said targeted screening (18), close contact screening (12) and various screenings (11) contributed to the increase of Covid-19 cases in the state capital.

As for Kudat, he said 19 out of the 36 cases were detected from close contact screening, 16 from targeted screening and one from symptomatic screening.

Meanwhile, he said the 23 cases in Keningau were detected from screenings under the Bata Durok Quarters Cluster, which originated from a brick factory in the district.

On the other hand, Masidi said 169 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospital or recovered.
A total of 1,539 patients were still undergoing treatment, including 440 in hospitals, 983 in Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres and 116 in temporary detention centre or prison.

“There are 67 patients in intensive care unit and 18 require ventilators.”
