KUCHING (June 28): Sarawak recorded 409 new Covid-19 cases today along with two fatalities, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
It said in its Covid-19 daily update that the latest cases brought the cumulate number of infections to 64,233 while the death toll now stood at 406.
It said 234 or 57.21 per cent of today’s cases were detected in Sibu, Kuching, Sarikei, Tebedu and Mukah.
“Sibu recorded the highest number of cases at 75 followed by Kuching (65), Sarikei (35), Tebedu (31), Mukah (28), Bintulu (23), Kanowit (23), Miri (22), Song (12), Kapit (11) and Telang Usan (10).
“Other districts which recorded new cases were Saratok (9), Sri Aman (9), Lubok Antu (8), Tatau (8), Subis (7), Samarahan (7), Sebauh (5), Bukit Mabong (5), Pakan (4), Simunjan (2), Betong (2), Selangau (2) as well as Lundu, Tanjung Manis, Bau, Meradong, Serian, and Pusa with one case each,” it said.
The committee said the new cases consisted of 49 individuals who had shown signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection when screenings were conducted while 360 cases detected from individuals who were instructed to be quarantined at quarantine centres.
It also gave a summary of the cases, noting that 267 were detected from screenings of individuals with contact to positive cases; 89 cases from screenings of individuals from existing active clusters; 28 cases from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities; 21 from other screenings at health facilities as well as four Import A case involving individuals who had returned from Indonesia.
On the death cases, the committee said the two fatalities were recorded in Sarikei and Kapit and that both victims were women.
“The death case in Sarikei involved a 76-year-old from Meradong who was found positive on June 22.
“She had a history of comorbidities namely hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia,” it said, adding that this case is linked to the Sungai Kotak Cluster in Meradong.
It said the 406th death case involved an 83-year-old who died at Kapit Hospital.
“The victim, who hailed from Bukit Mabong, was found positive on June 10. She had comorbidities of hypertension and dyslipidemia,” it said.
Meanwhile, SDMC said the number of Covid-19 recoveries in the state exceeded new cases today with 523 cases allowed to be discharged from hospitals and the quarantine and low-risk patients treatment centres (PKRC).
“The total number of recoveries in the state has now increased to 53,134 or 82.72 per cent out of the overall cases,” said the committee.
It also said that 10,545 patients were warded and under medical supervision at hospitals and PKRCs throughout the state.
A total of 409 new person under investigation (PUI) cases were also reported with none pending lab test results.
