Cop detained for allegedly taking bribe

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has apprehended a police lance corporal for allegedly asking and accepting a cash bribery of RM3,500 from a Pakistani.

According to a source, the cop is working at one of the districts in Sabah and had asked for money from the foreigner on Wednesday.

“The money is a payment to return all items belonging to the Pakistani including a motorcycle, a debtor book and passport,” the source said.

The suspect who is in his 20’s was arrested about 11.30am.

“When the suspect was apprehended, MACC also confiscated cash amounting RM3,500 which is believed to have been taken in a corrupt manner,” the source mentioned.

When contacted, MACC Sabah director, S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and informed that the suspect is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

He said that the suspect is apprehended for 24 hours for further investigation.
