Foodpanda riders delivered food aid to the three families who raised a white flag yesterday.
MIRI (July 2): Running out of money and options, a father of seven decided to raise a white flag from the top floor of a shophouse in Senadin here.
This prompted a stream of donations including from 30-year-old Nazia Eusoff who uploaded the photo on a social media platform yesterday morning for members of the public to help the family.
“I happened to pass by the shop building and saw a raised white flag on the top floor. However, the flag was not very visible as it was at the back of the shophouse building. I took a picture and uploaded it on Miri Community Facebook page,” she said when contacted.
It was learned that three families are renting the top floor of the shophouse which has two rooms. The breadwinner of one of the families with seven children lost his source of income during Movement Control Order (MCO).

After the photo was uploaded, many volunteers and various associations visited the family.
“I personally sent some food to the families before their plight got the attention of netizens.
“We are thankful that the white flag has been lowered as all three families have received the necessary basic necessities,” she said while lauding Miri residents for their care and concern regardless of race and religion.

A photo of a group of Foodpanda riders who sent basic necessities to the families had also gone viral, receiving praise from the public.
Meanwhile, Senadin assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin said he had instructed the Welfare Department to check whether the families have received assistance from their hometown as the families are not from Miri.
“We have arranged for investigation on welfare assistance rendered to the families prior to this. Our service centre had also delivered food baskets to the families,” he added.
