Covid-19: Sarawak records one death; new daily cases drop to 361

KUCHING (July 3): Sarawak’s daily Covid-19 cases dropped to 361 today, with Kuching reporting the highest number of cases at 77, while recording one fatality in Kapit, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

In its daily update, SDMC said this brought the state’s cumulative number of cases to 66,196 and the death toll to 418.

SDMC said 194 cases or 53.74 per cent of the new cases were detected in Kuching, Sibu, Subis, Bau and Bintulu.

The death was recorded in Kapit and involves a 62-year-old woman, who tested positive on June 22 and later passed away at the Kapit Hospital. The case had hypertension and dyslipidemia.

For the new infections, Sibu came in second with 33 cases followed by Subis (32), Bau (27), Bintulu (25), Saratok (22), Miri (22), Serian (12), Sri Aman (11), Kapit (11) and Song (10).

Other districts that recorded single-digit cases were Telang Usan (9), Samarahan (9), Mukah (7), Limbang (5), Asajaya (5), Dalat (5), Tatau (5), Tebedu (5), Kanowit (5), Lundu (3), Pakan (3), Selangau (3), Sebauh (3), Belaga (2), Meradong (2), Simunjan (2) and Sarikei (2).

Districts reporting just one case are Beluru, Matu, Marudi and Betong.

SDMC said 38 individuals out of the new cases had shown signs and symptoms of Covid-19 during when their swab tests were taken.

“34 of the new cases are linked to the existing active clusters but these cases are asymptomatic,” it added.

SDMC said the state recorded 529 new recovery and discharged cases today, bringing such cases tally to 55,701 or 84.15 per cent of the total infections.

A total of 9,922 individuals are still being treated and isolated at the various hospital wards and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-risk Treatment Centres (PKRC).
