KUCHING (July 4): A 54-year-old farmer was arrested by the police after he was allegedly found to be in possession of an air powered shotgun around 3.30pm yesterday.
Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the raid under ‘Op Laras’ was carried out by the district’s Criminal Investigations Department at the suspect’s house in Kampung Serasot, Jalan Kampung Stass-Bau.
“The raid was carried out based on a tip-off,” said Poge in a statement last night.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for the illegal possession of a firearm.
If found guilty, the offender could face a maximum jail sentence of seven years or a fine of RM10,000 or both.
