SIBU (July 4): A 17-year-old boy was arrested after he was caught in an illegal motorcycle-racing at Permai Jaya on Friday evening.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said police patrollers saw the boy, together with two other motorcyclists, racing one another around a housing estate in Permai Jaya at about 6.45pm.

Upon seeing the police, all three individuals attempted to evade arrest.

“Two motorcyclists managed to escape, but my men finally apprehended the 17-year-old boy after a brief chase.

“Upon inspection, it was found that his motorcycle had been heavily modified,” said Stanley, adding that the boy had also committed other offences such as not possessing valid driving licence and insurance coverage, not wearing any helmet, his motorcycle not having rear-view mirrors and not having registration number, and also the unauthorised use of glare lights.

Stanley said the case would be investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.

“Police have also confiscated the motorcycle, under Section 60(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, as evidence,” he added.
