SIBU (July 5): The mobile vaccination centre (PPV) service here will be extended until this weekend to allow more residents to get vaccinated, said Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) member Senator Robert Lau.

The service, which started last Friday, was initially planned for four days at Tiong Hua zone here.

“It is extended till this weekend. The time covered is from 5pm to 7pm as the staff have to come from other centres after their work ends there,” Lau told The Borneo Post today when asked if the service will be continued.

For the record, the mobile PPV is a bus from University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) specially converted for vaccination purposes and officially launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on June 30.

It is parked behind Rejang Medical Center (RMC) here for vaccination.

When asked on their next stop, Lau said that they were looking at moving to a different location to access a target group which had not been covered in the last few days.

“We are looking at moving to another location so as to be nearer to the targeted group that has not been covered the last few days,” Lau said.

He explained that the target group are those who stay in Zone 7, which is worst hit by positive cases.

He revealed that overwhelming majority of the residents are rural-urban migrants from the Iban, Melanau and Malay community from villages and longhouses staying in rented accommodation.

“We are planning to do a bigger vaccination programme with volunteers going door to door in this zone and Zone 6 (Tong Sang) to register and get those who have not been vaccinated and not registered,” he said.
