KUCHING (July 7): The Covid-19-positive patient who escaped from Kolej Sains Kesihatan Bersekutu (KSKB) Asajaya quarantine centre at Jalan Puncak Borneo yesterday has been apprehended by police.

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said the 31-year-old woman was nabbed at Jalan Field Force, Petra Jaya around noon today together with her boyfriend.

“The patient and her boyfriend were later sent to the quarantine centre at Jalan Puncak Borneo,” he said in a statement.

The woman, from Kampung Semariang in Petra Jaya, claimed that she was feeling depressed at the quarantine centre which prompted her to escape, said Lim, adding she then contacted her boyfriend to ‘keep her company’.

He said police were able to track down the woman’s whereabouts after receiving a tip-off from the boyfriend’s father.

“Investigation showed that she has a past record for drug abuse under Section 15(1)(c) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

Police are investigating her under Section 269 of the Penal Code and Section 22b of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
