SIBU (July 8): The family of People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) member Mohd Azinatulazizi Afandi received compensation from the Social Security Organisation (Socso) today.

Mohd Azinatulazizi passed away while on duty at a Covid-19 quarantine centre here last Friday.

His widow Normadiah Mansor, 31, received RM2,000 for funeral services and will receive a survivor’s pension every month.

Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee said Normadiah would receive the pension until her death, while their five children, aged three to 11, would receive it until they are 21.

“If the children marry early, then the compensation will be given until they got married. As such, the family would receive a total of RM870 every month,” he told reporters after presenting the cheque to the family at Kampung Bahagia Jaya today.

The Nangka assemblyman said he would discuss other ways to help the children with the Welfare Department.

He said to ensure better education for the children, they are considering placing them at Pusat Peryatim if the family agrees.

“I feel that the place is suitable for the children because the children would be well taken care of whereby including education, meals, transportation, and even some pocket money.

“They can go back to the kampung during the weekend because it is not very far, only about 20km, and it seems that they agreed to place their eldest child at Peryatim,” he said.

Mohd Azinatulazizi’s sister Azazaitulillawati said her brother, who has been involved in Rela since 2011, was seen collapsing in a toilet by a colleague.

She said the family had just started a fish rearing business three months ago.

“We wanted it to be a family business, which we just started to rear fish about three months ago, and fish rearing is his hobby. But unfortunately, he did not to see it to fruition,” she said.
