KUCHING (July 13): Four construction sites in Sarawak were ordered closed yesterday for breaching the standard operating procedure (SOP) to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, said the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) in a statement.

It said CIDB Sarawak conducted site inspection operations in Kuching and Betong districts, as well as in Sibu District.

“In Kuching and Betong, 11 sites were inspected and out of that, seven were found to be not in operation, while two were operating according to the stipulated SOP.

“However, two sites were found to have violated the SOP of Act 342 (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988) and were ordered to stop operations immediately,” it said.

Over in Sibu, CIDB said a special site inspection operation involving CIDB Sibu Branch and police was carried out around the district.

It said two construction sites were ordered to stop operations immediately for failing to comply with the SOP set by the Ministry of Health.

“At the first site, there was failure to display MySejahtera and to submit attendance list as well as checking employees’ temperature.

“At the second site, the number of employees exceeded the 60 per cent capacity allowed in the SOP,” it added.

CIDB also informed that a total of 209 construction sites nationwide were ordered closed during the National Recovery Plan period since June 1, due to failure to comply with the set SOP.
