SIBU (July 19): The Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) will follow Sibu Municipal Council’s (SMC) move to issue certificates to business owners verifying that they and their employees have been vaccinated.

SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said the move would benefit both customers and business owners.

“After all the employees have been vaccinated, council will issue a certificate to them which they can conspicuously display at their premises. This is to certify that all employees in the shop have been vaccinated as customers will not be reluctant to frequent the shop.

“Take eateries for instance, at least their customers will be fully aware and confident that the food premises that they dine in is safe, as the food operators and assistants have already received at least the first dose, if not both doses,” he told The Borneo Post today.

He said SRDC’s enforcement and standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance monitoring teams are checking whether food operators have been vaccinated or not.

He explained business owners and staff need to show their vaccination cards and Vaccination Digital Certificates to enforcement personnel.

“Only the operators and their workers who have been vaccinated at least with the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine are allowed to operate dine-in in accordance with the requirements by the authorities for the food sector during Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) in Sarawak,” he said.

Sempurai also called on all traders under SRDC to continue observing the SOPs to curb the spread of Covid-19

He stressed they still need to abide by the SOPs even if they have completed both doses of vaccine.

“Let us continue to play our part to flatten the curve of Covid-19 infection,” he added.
