MIRI (Aug 22): Frequent travellers to Limbang and Lawas districts may be required to take Covid-19 Rapid Antigen Test Kit (RTK) test at the land entry points before being allowed to enter the two districts, said Limbang Divisional Disaster Management Committee chairman Ahmad Denney Ahmad Fauzi.

Ahmad Denney, who is also Limbang Resident said the idea, which is to prevent the spread of the virus in the two districts, had been proposed to the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during the latter’s visit to Limbang on Aug 14.

“Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan who is also Bukit Sari assemblyman and myself had proposed to the chief minister to impose this measure at the border for incoming travellers or frequent travellers such as the transporters.

“This RTK test takes only 15 minutes to know the result, and by doing so, we would be able to minimise the possible spread of the virus in Limbang and Lawas districts,” he said.

He pointed out that this measure is necessary, as there has been a surge in Covid-19 positive cases in Lawas over the last 14 days.

He revealed that as of today (Aug 22), a total of 21 cases were reported in Lawas and two cases were recorded in Limbang.

“Majority of the 21 cases reported in Lawas were imported (Import B and C), while the two cases recorded in Limbang yesterday were imported cases too,” he said.

Limbang has not recorded any Covid-19 cases since July 17 this year until yesterday.

He also pointed out that the district’s disaster management committee would also intensify their surveillance at both the airports under Limbang division, namely the Limbang and Lawas airports.

“As of now, those coming from KK (Kota Kinabalu) via flights to Limbang will have to undergo mandatory quarantine, whereas those travelling inter-district such as from Miri and beyond, we will intensify our random checking at the airports.

“We will carry out random Covid-19 test on the passengers upon their arrival,” Ahmad Denney said, adding that Lawas has been categorised as a yellow zone, while Limbang maintained its green zone.
