Covid-19: One new cluster declared in Sarawak today

KUCHING (Sept 19): One new Covid-19 cluster dubbed the Jalan Taman Raja Cluster was declared by the State Health Department today involving the employees of a food premises at King’s Commercial Park in Miri.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), a total of 151 individuals were screened in this workplace cluster with 24 testing positive and two pending lab test results.

SDMC in their daily update also revealed that three other clusters came to an end today after no new cases were detected or reported in the last 28 days from the three clusters.

The three clusters which ended are the Peligong Cluster in Saratok, the Tanjung Tuang Cluster and Bandar Riyal Cluster, both in Samarahan.

Currently, there are 136 active clusters in Sarawak, out of which 16 clusters recorded a total of 67 positive cases today.

Clusters which recorded more than one positive case today are the Sungai Pana Cluster (15); Bungey 2 Cluster (13); Long Urun Cluster (8); Industri Jalan Semeba Cluster (6), Pinang Jawa Cluster (6), Duras Cluster (4), Opar Cluster (3), Kampung Segedup Cluster (3) and the Jalan Taman Raja Clustrer (2).

Meanwhile, SDMC said that six premises in Sarawak have been listed in the Ministry of Health’s Hotspot Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) system today.

It said the premises are Vista Tunku Mydin in Petra Jaya, Batu Kawa Emart in Kuching, Vivacity Mall in Kuching, The Spring Shopping Mall in Kuching, Aiman Mall in Kota Samarahan and Medan Mall in Sibu.

This brings the total number of HIDE premises in the state to 353.

HIDE premises and locations have the potential to turn into clusters if pre-emptive actions were not taken and are different from the list of clusters issued each day by the Health director-general.

Premises listed under HIDE do not need to close except when directed by the authorities.

If no hotspots emerged in the premises after the implementation of pre-emptive actions, these premises would be removed from the HIDE list within a period of seven days after their listing.
