KOTA KINABALU: The Election Committee (EC) for the 39th Executive and Supervisory Committee (2022-2024) of Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) has denied allegations on the illegitimacy of its membership roster and deletion of life members from the list.

In a statement issued after its meeting on Tuesday, the EC said the election regulations and membership list were in accordance with KKCCCI constitution.

The committee said the constitution states that the change of representative for any public or private limited company, partnership or trade association member must be submitted in writing and the new representative shall only enjoy the right to elect or to be elected at the general meeting after six months from the date of approval of its application by the Executive Committee.

The EC said a committee member has queried the absence of the representatives for some companies on the membership list, and explained that these life members have either passed away or closed their business.

The committee maintained that no life member has been erased from the list.

The election regulation of KKCCCI states that the new representative could only elect or to be elected at the general meeting after six months from the date of approval of its application by the Executive Committee, but the rule does not apply if the change of representative is due to the death of its incumbent representative.

The EC said the regulation was in line with the constitution, which also stipulates that new member shall only enjoy the right to elect and be elected after six months from the date of approval.

The EC said everything was strictly done by the book and has carried out its duty in compliance with the constitution.

The EC is headed by Yee That Hian, while its members are Datuk Chang Chin Shin, JP, Datuk William Chu, Kuo Yin Jan and Lee Nyuk Chong.
