International, local artistes performing at SIFMA 2.0 virtual live concert this Sunday

SIFMA 2.0 virtual live concert will be held this Sunday from 5pm to 7pm.

KUCHING (Nov 18): Top international artistes will be teaming up with their Sarawak counterparts to perform in the Sarawak International Festival of Music and Arts (SIFMA 2.0) virtual live concert this Sunday from 5pm to 7pm.

Among the international artistes performing in this community music and arts festival are the renowned Bolshoi Ballet dancers from Russia, award-winning conductor of the Suc Song Moi Ensemble, Mr Quang Vinh Dong, singers from the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Visayan cultural troupe from the Philippines.

They will joined by Sarawak performers comprising Sarawak Chinese Ensemble, KaryaTerindah Performing Arts, Dolce Chanticleer, Zephyr, Kuching Wushu Association, IMH Ethnica Orchestra, The Sarawak State Symphony Orchestra (SONS) and La Danse studio.

Speaking at a press conference last week, state Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the festival is an event with the community in mind and seeks to benefit those involved and tuned in to the festival all over the world.

“SIFMA gives viewers the opportunity to immerse in world class entertainment while learning about different cultures and watching wholesome entertainment from the participating countries,” he said.

Organised by International Music House Kuching (IMH) and sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Sarawak (MTAC), the virtual event this Sunday will be live streamed not just within Sarawak, but also in Peninsular Malaysia and the rest of the world via its venue partners and vendors.

Abdul Karim welcomed the event as part of the steps to revive the State’s tourism industry.

“When the pandemic came, the whole world came to an abrupt stop. And like the rest of the world, we have had to put many programmes on hold including events that are already on the state’s tourism calendar,” he said.

Among the highlights of SIFMA is the ongoing forum called “Let’s Talk”, featuring inspirational stories and advice from professionals and enthusiasts in the music and arts community.

There will be special feature screening at @sifmaofficalfacebook on Saturday at 7.30pm.
