KOTA KINABALU (Nov 18): The Society For The Sabah Heart Fund has started the “SaveMyHeart” campaign with a hope to raise RM150,000 to send three more patients for surgery.
This is in conjunction with the Society’s 40th anniversary to break the number of 700 children it had sent with congenital heart disease over the last four decades.
Its president, Datuk Eva Susau, said the Society had sent 698 patients for corrective heart surgeries since its establishment in 1981.
“This year we have sent 10 young patients from January 2021 to October 2021. This year as we celebrate our 40th anniversary cum fund-raising celebrations, we may not be able to do it in the hotel as much as we wish to, nevertheless we are appealing directly to the public to give generously to save three more patients or more before end of the year,” she said.
Eva said the Society will sponsor all medical and transportation costs, including airfare from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur (vice versa) for the child and an escort. The major cost would go to the surgical and hospitalization fees, Covid-19 test before and after the operation and initial quarantine isolation charges and allowances. The medical cost may vary depending on the severity of each case.
The three qualifying patients have been identified with the help of doctors and social welfare officer. They are Herlena (eight years old), Mohd Hisyam (seven months old) and Faizal (13 years old).
