KUCHING (Nov 19): The Sultan Iskandar Planetarium is organising a Friends of Astronomy Roadshow to be held in Kuching, Sri Aman, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri from November to December.

According to a press statement, the roadshow in Kuching will be held from today (Nov 19) to Nov 21 at Vivacity Megamall.

The event aims to provide astronomical awareness to the public, especially students.

The highlight of the programme is a mini planetarium where visitors will be able to experience being in the universe through simulations of the night sky amidst planets, moon and constellations through a digital show on astronomy.

Apart from that, visitors can also catch a digital show with international astronomy elements.

In addition, hands-on activities will be held during the roadshow, where students can learn to make star charts and understand how to use the planetarium software. There will also be astronomy quizzes and science shows.

Previously, roadshows were only organised at schools and did not involve the public.

This time, the roadshow will be held at a popular supermarket location in order to attract many visitors of various ages and give them the opportunity to visit the exhibition.

The Sultan Iskandar Planetarium team will be present at each location of the roadshow to provide opportunities for more people to participate in activities.

Organisers will also be placing strict emphasis on Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the roadshow.

Sultan Iskandar Planetarium is a unit under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research.
