Sarawak election: Polling centres close with voter turnout at 55 pct as of 4pm

KUCHING (Dec 18): The voting process for the 12th Sarawak election has ended at 5pm with the closure of all the 1,866 polling stations throughout the state and a voter turnout rate of 52 per cent recorded at 3pm.

The stations were opened since 7.30am.

Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) informed that 1,207 polling centres were already closed by 2pm today.

Based on the electoral roll for the state updated as of November 2, there are 1,252,014 registered voters in Sarawak with 1,213,769 ordinary voters.

A total of 46,565 EC personnel involved, with 155 EC monitoring teams.

After the polling stations were closed, ballot boxes from 3,555 voting streams will be brought to the designated tallying centre of each of the 82 state constituencies.

The results will be announced tonight by EC.

Early voting was held on December 14, where 20,360 people had cast their votes, while another 17,885 had voted by post.
