Covid-19: Daily cases in Sarawak drop to 30

KUCHING (Dec 19): Sarawak recorded 30 new Covid-19 cases today, of which 27 are in Category 1 (asymptomatic) and 2 (mild symptoms), said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

This brings the total cumulative tally of cases in Sarawak to 251,997.

In its daily update today, the committee said that there were 10 cases in Category 1 and 17 cases in Category 2.

“There was one case in Category 4 (pneumonia and requiring oxygen) and two cases in Category 5 (pneumonia and requiring ventilator support),” said SDMC.

On the breakdown of cases in the state, the committee said there were 12 districts that recorded new cases, with Kuching recording 12 cases.

This was followed by Miri with four cases, Sibu (3), Samarahan and Kanowit (2) and one case each in Lundu, Bintulu, Meradong, Sri Aman, Lawas, Kapit and Bukit Mabong.

No deaths from Covid-19 were recorded in the state.

Meanwhile, SDMC said that the Ministry of Health has issued a total of six compounds from Dec 12 to 18, with one each in Simunjan, Betong, Sibu, Kanowit, Daro and Bintulu.

This brings the total compound issued by the ministry to 663.

One compound each was issued for failing to register before entering a premises, failing to wear face mask, not undergoing quarantine and premises owner failing to ensure physical distancing while two compounds were issued for other offences.

The police have also issued seven compounds in Kuching for failing to scan the MySejahtera QR code or writing in their attendance before entering a premises.

This brings the total compounds issued by the police to 12,577.
