KUCHING (Dec 19): A clean sweep of all eight Bidayuh-majority seats by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) during the just concluded 12th State Election showed that the Bidayuh community wants political unity under the same alliance, said political veteran Datuk Peter Minos.

“They also seek and want to be with the government for reasons of development and better future. They see there is nothing to hope for in the opposition parties,” he said today when asked to comment state election.

The Bidayuh-majority seats referred to are Opar, Tasik Biru, Serembu, Mambong, Tarat, Tebedu, Kedup and Bukit Semuja.

GPS’ new face Billy Sujang of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), successfully wrested back Opar from the opposition.

Another new face Dr Simon Sinang Bada, of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), also comfortably won in Tebedu.

Dato Henry Harry Jinep from Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) retained Tasik Biru with a bigger majority than in 2016.  John Ilus from PBB also got bigger number of votes this time.

Other GPS candidates also successfully defended their respective seats namely Datuk Roland Sagah (PBB) in Tarat, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil (PBB) in Mambong, Miro Simuh (PBB) in Serembu and Martin Ben (PBB) in Kedup.

Minos said based on the results in the eight Bidayuh-majority seats, it was clear that the Bidayuh community has big faith and confidence in GPS in looking after Sarawak and its people.

“It also means that the Bidayuhs do not like the opposition for talking too big and at times nonsensical, promising too much and behaving too haughtily,” he added.

He added the Bidayuh community, like all fellow Sarawakians, rejects the opposition especially those Peninsular-based parties which had “talked too much and too crudely”.

“They very much prefer GPS that is well led, united, able and can protect Sarawak.

“The ‘Sarawak First’ mood has now being established among Sarawakians. It is real and genuine, and here to last,” he said.
