KUCHING (Feb 13): St Joseph’s International School (SJIS) here signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Eduroam Sdn Bhd (German Educare) to offer A-Level students the option of German Education Pathway programme yesterday.

The MoU was signed by SJIS chief executive officer Christopher Chua and Eduroam Sdn Bhd founder Gyvinne Koh in a simple ceremony at the school.

“With the MoU, German Educare will work exclusively with SJIS to provide German Language programme in Sarawak. We will start this programme with our 2022 A-Level April intake after SPM examination,” Chua said during the event.

He said the approved leading German Language provider in Malaysia has been working with several colleges in the the peninsula for its German Education Pathway. Their methodology has been proven with many students enrolled in German universities.

He stated that Malaysian students usually opt for tertiary education abroad at English-speaking countries such as Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom or the United States. However, the cost of education in these countries has increased substantially either due to increase in fees or the weakening of Malaysian currency exchange.

Meanwhile, Germany ‘s renowned higher education system and world-leading technical degrees with reasonable tuition fees or free tuition at Germany’s public universities even for international students has made it a popular education destination, he added.

The German Pathway Programme requires students to take three Cambridge A-Level subjects with German Language lessons.

At the end of the 15 or 18-month A-Level programme, students should have acquired B1 level proficiency in German Language.

Students will continue another nine-month German Language programme with German Educare in Kuala Lumpur to complete C2 level German Language proficiency to be eligible to apply for entry into German universities.
