KUCHING (May 14): The act of perpetrators pouring detergent into the Hornbill Fountain at the Kuching Waterfront has been caught on CCTV and the matter reported to the police, said Deputy Minister in charge of Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

“We have lodged a police report following the incident and the act of the perpetrators was captured on CCTV footage.

“DBKU hereby advises the public not to take this matter lightly, as DBKU will be taking appropriate action under the full extent of the law including lodging a police report for the mischief done by them,” he told The Borneo Post when contacted today.

Dr Abdul Rahman said the perpetrators had purposely and mischievously poured detergent into the water fountain to make it foamy.

“So far, no damage was detected after servicing was done yesterday,” he added.

The aftermath of the May 12 incident went viral on social media, which showed images of the fountain overflowing with foam caused by the detergent powder.

According to reports on social media and online portals, an empty packet of detergent powder was found the following day beside a rubbish bin near the fountain.

It was said that the incident happened in between patrol rounds by the security.

Kuching Waterfront security personnel had filed a police report following the incident.

The Hornbill Fountain is one of the famous landmarks at the Waterfront, near the Chinese History Museum. It is a stainless steel sculpture depicting a trio of flying hornbills over a pond.
