KOTA KINABALU (May 14): The people have been urged to reform the country’s leadership and political structure.

Warisan president Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Shafie Apdal said the country now needs a reform platform for all the people to move forward as Malaysia is owned by various races including from Sabah and Sarawak.

“With a multi-racial party, we need to share the country’s wealth. Sabah is rich in oil resources but basic amenities such as roads, water, telecommunications and so on are still lacking.

“Don’t just create a slogan while the people suffer every day.

“People are now faced with expensive price of goods. Don’t let the price of food such as chicken meat be controlled by middlemen, causing prices to soar,” he said at the Sepanggar Parliamentary Hari Raya Open House here on Saturday.

The Semporna member of Parliament said only the people can change a leader.

He said that while enjoying the food and comfortable life, everyone need to remember that many people, especially in Sabah, suffer from the rising price of goods, unemployment, floods and so on.

“The floods in Tenom, Beaufort have disconnected the roads. When Warisan was the state government, I approved an allocation of RM30 million to repair the Ranau road after it was cut off and it was completed within two months.

“Barisan Nasional (BN) has been making a promise for 70 years but the road is still muddy and full of potholes.

Shafie, who is also the former Chief Minister, said slogans should not only be made to serve the people when the benefits could not be enjoyed by society as a whole.
