KUCHING (May 14): Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin has launched her new website ‘Mothering’ to advocate for women’s rights and equality.

According to her, the role of a mother is like no other. The website gives recognition to mothers for their sacrifices as well as to educate mothers on their rights, assist single mothers and ensure greater women empowerment.

“Being a mother myself, I understand what it takes to look after your family and the sacrifices a woman has to make to keep them happy.

“Despite being a minister, I make it a point to ensure my duties as a mother are never neglected because the family is of utmost importance and we must always make time for our loved ones,” she said in a statement yesterday.

The minister stated that she has been fighting for greater women representation especially in politics and though the numbers have improved, there is still more to be done.

As a politician, she prioritises strong connection with her constituents and the people at large.

She observed many women struggling and facing uphill tasks juggling jobs, families and other commitments.

“We must never forget that women and children need strong support, love and care to get by in this challenging world, and I hope to do my best to assist them in every way I can,” she said.

Her opening message in the website reads: “Without mothers, the world can be a scary place. No matter how old we are, with motherly care, guidance and wisdom, we can move forward with confidence.

“To mother is to care. To mother is to grow. To mother is to love. Whether it’s mothering my family, my children, my home, my office, my workforce or the world around me, I relish my role as a mother.

“Mothering is what will ultimately move us from being weak to strong. Mothering our community, our environment, and our world is what will make our planet a better place for all of us.

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.”

The website which also includes information on workers’ rights, economic rights, environmental sustainability and also other updates is accessible at https://www.mothering.world/.
