SIBU (May 17): A charity sale at Logos Methodist Church, Jalan Tong Sang here has raised much more than the target of RM516,000.

“In fact, we started a half-day charity sale yesterday (Sunday) and have raised about RM570,000. So the response is really overwhelming.

“What you see here at today’s (May 16) charity sale is all sponsored. We thank those who came and helped us,” organising chairman Dr Renco Yong told reporters when met after the opening ceremony yesterday.

He added that for the past two months, the organising committee had been galvanising support from 30 churches around Sibu and members of the public.

The funds raised are for its new RM12 million education and pastor building project which commenced in December 2019.

The church was short of RM2.3 million.

“Basically, we are just left with furnishing. We really hope to raise enough funds so the whole project could be completed by this year,” Yong said.

He said once completed, there will be additional parking bays, classrooms and multipurpose hall for badminton and table tennis.

Also present at the event were pastor in charge Revd Ling Hang Kee and building committee chairman Lau Pek Kii.
