SARIKEI (May 19): A fire broke out at a dormitory of SK Orang Kaya Muda Pakeri in Kampung Paloh near here this morning.
In a statement, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Operations Centre said a distress call was received at 7.05am.
In response, a team of firefighters from Tanjung Manis fire station was deployed to the scene.
The statement said as the village is not accessible by road, the firefighters used a boat to get to the area.
It is understood that while waiting for the firefighters, villagers led by the voluntary firefighting unit attempted to extinguish the fire using fire extinguishers and a water pump.
