600 participants targeted for Kuching Festival Esports Challenge

KUCHING (July 28): The South Kuching City Council (MBKS), in collaboration with the Sarawak Electronic Sports Association (SESA), will organise the physical Kuching Festival Esports Challenge esports tournament in conjunction with the celebration of Kuching City Day and Kuching Festival.

Among the game titles that will be contested are Tekken 7 through the platform PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) through mobile gaming platforms.

An awareness seminar on Healthy Gaming will be organised together with this challenge on July 30 which is open to all members of the public, especially players, youth, parents and even teachers.

There are also attractive prizes waiting for the participants through a lucky draw from the organisers.

The event is at the MBKS hall.

Registration for this tournament is open from July 14 to Aug 4 for the game title Tekken 7 and the competition dates are on Aug 6 to 7.

Whereas MLBB registration is opened on July 14 to 28 and the competition dates are on July 30 to 31.

The participation target for the two game titles is 256 people consisting of youth aged 40 and under while the target for the Healthy Gaming awareness seminar is 210 people.

Overall, the organisers are aiming for more than 600 physical and live online participation.

The Kuching Festival Esports Challenge is an effort by MBKS and SESA to promote the importance of unity through esports and giving opportunities to youth around the city of Kuching to showcase their respective talents.

In addition, one of the objectives of this event is to raise awareness about balance in video games and how to fight addiction to play through an awareness seminar programme that will be held later.

In the seminar as well, the participants will be shared with knowledge on how to use the esports platform more effectively and how this platform can be beneficial in the field of career and opportunities to generate income.

This tournament is also a platform to prepare amateur players who have the potential to perform at any national or international level tournament.

It also aims to help the players’ psychological control in improving their ability to control the pressure of the competition.

Through this tournament, players can not only increase their confidence, but it can also highlight their potential and discipline when facing the challenges of the competition.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also Minister of Youth, Sports and Sarawak Entrepreneur Development, will officiate the opening on July 30.
