MIRI (July 29): A fire around 11.40pm last night almost completely destroyed a house at Kampung Padang Kelulit in Bekenu, near here, leaving a family of 10 homeless.
Batu Niah fire station said in a statement here today that fortunately no one was injured in the incident.
It said a distress call on the incident was received at 11.42pm.
A team of firefighters led by Rary Binjie was sent to the village.
“Upon arriving at the scene, which is located 25km from the station, the team found that there was indeed a fire involving a semi-permanent house.
“The team immediately carried out firefighting using the offensive technique, with water sourced from a nearby pond,” said the statement.
The fire destroyed 70 per cent of the house.
The operation was completed at 1.30am today.
