Covid-19: Sarawak records 798 new infections from Aug 14-20

KUCHING (Aug 21): Sarawak recorded 798 new Covid-19 infections during the Aug 14-20 week, according to the Ministry of Health’s CovidNow website.

This brings the cumulative total of cases in the state to 311,772.

Sarawak saw the most number of new cases cases on Aug 18 at 182 during the week, followed by Aug 16 (159 new cases), Aug 19 (133 new cases), Aug 17 (107 new cases), Aug 20 (90 new cases), Aug 15 (73 new cases) and Aug 14 (54 new cases).

This week, the 18-29 age group made up 21.1 per cent of the infections in Sarawak, and also contributing the same percentage was the 30-30 age group, followed by the 40-49 age group (13 per cent), the 50-59 age group (9.5 per cent) and the 12-17 age group (seven per cent).

As of yesterday, Sarawak still had 1,076 active cases.

Nationally, a total of 22,786 new cases were recorded over the corresponding week.

Malaysia had the most number of new infections on Aug 18 at 4,071 during the week, followed by Aug 17 (3,516 new cases), Aug 19 (3,490 new cases), Aug 16 (3,429 new cases), Aug 14 (3,045 new cases), Aug 20 (2,798 new cases) and Aug 15 (2,437 new cases).

This week, the 30-39 age group contributed 25.5 per cent to the cases in the country, followed by the 18-29 age group (24.7 per cent), the 40-49 age group (15.6 per cent), the 50-59 age group (8.3 per cent) and the 12-17 age group (6.1 per cent).

Malaysia had a total of 4,755,288 infections, as well as 40,890 active cases, as of yesterday.

Meanwhile, the intensive care unit (ICU) bed utilisation rate for Covid-19 patients in Sarawak stood at 50.7 per cent yesterday.

This was the sixth lowest in the country, which national rate was 62.1 per cent.

Other states and territories that recorded ICU bed usage rates below the national rate were Terengganu (61.9 per cent), Sabah (61.6 per cent), Perak (58.1 per cent), Negeri Sembilan and Labuan (both 57.1 per cent), Penang (47.5 per cent), Pahang (45.8 per cent), Putrajaya (45 per cent), Melaka (42.7 per cent) and Perlis (36.8 per cent).
