MYNIC enables MSMEs to start digital transformation

KUCHING: MYNIC’s Program Realisasi Impian Ekonomi Digital (PRIME) enables micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) businesses to start their digital transformation from offline to online for them to be found on the internet, be competitive, promote sustainability and future proof in the era of digital economy.

To note, MYNIC is the official registry and registrar for .MY domain registry recognised by Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

MYNIC, an agency under Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (K-KOMM), administers nine domain name categories, such as .my, .com.my, .biz.my, .org.my, .net.my, .edu.my, .gov.my, .mil.my and .name.my.

“The objective of PRIME is to drive digital adoption among the MSMEs sector and increase the competitiveness of small businesses in Malaysia,” MYNIC said.

“As part of PRIME, we hope that by offering MSMEs a free .BIZ.MY domain, it will encourage them to create an online presence and set up their own e-commerce platform to grow their business.

“With the introduction of the .BIZ.MY domain category, we hope to spur more businesses to embrace digitisation to help them stay competitive in Malaysia’s digital economy.

“By offering MSMEs free BIZ.MY domains and an opportunity to create their own unique Malaysian business identity online, we are confident it will help grow their business in both the local and international market. We would also like to thank our strategic partners for their support and being part of this initiative to propel MSMEs

“With a .BIZ.MY domain, businesses will gain a more competitive advantage through improved Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) enabling users with a local domain to be prioritised by search engines.

“To summarise, PRIME has been developed specifically to empower Malaysian MSMEs and drive digital adoption.

“This initiative will not only stimulate economic growth, but also help to boost employment opportunities in Malaysia.”

Initially, MYNIC started this program with 11 collaborators consisting of Ministries and their agencies.

“To date, we are strategically working with almost 50 collaborators from the states, SME associations, universities, NGOs and private companies.”

To enable the MSMEs, MYNIC is focusing on the three main pillars of PRIME: digital branding, digital platform and capacity building.

Under digital branding, MYNIC is offering 20,000 free BIZ.MY domain name for them transformed from offline to online with proper digital identity.

In addition, MYNIC provides a digital platform such as 20,000 FREE GO2 Brand Standard (a digital marketing apps) to be used with the BIZ.MY domain name.

“We are also offering them with a Website Builder to them to develop their own website to complete their eCommerce ecosystem.

“For the states, we are offering free Secure Resolver to enhance the security features while going online.”

As for capacity building, this is where MYNIC engages the MSMEs with free digital transformation awareness programs conducted via webinar or physical approach.


In addition to PRIME, other entrepreneurship programmes and initiatives offered by MYNIC include Program Latihan Penguasaan Pasaran Digital and Cerita.MY Saya.

This is one of MYNIC’s initiatives in helping and bringing offline based businesses to engage in the world of offline to online business) and further prepare for the global market of the world’s digital economy.

The training program provides awareness and understanding sessions to the entrepreneurial community on cyber security with a focus on website development curriculum, advertising using Facebook and Google ads.

The results of the training program have shown that there is an increase of over 100 per cent of the income of the participants who start a business only in the local market so as to become successful online entrepreneurs to expand their products to the international market.

This is a PRIME Basics Webinar program initiated by MYNIC Bhd, held live via Facebook, aimed at sharing the success stories of the entrepreneurs who have successfully created their business identities digitally.

In addition, it provides awareness on the advantages of .MY Domain names and free BIZ.MY domain name registration sessions

MYNIC also holds a “weekly engagement” in addition to the one Malaysia tour through the K-KOMM initiative, the Jelajah Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia (JAKM).

On how Cerita .MY Saya impacts the community, MYNIC noted that it plays a strategic role in assisting entrepreneurs, especially in rural areas, in promoting their products through e-business.

“This will help them grow not only in the local market but also internationally.

“These efforts need to be continued in an effort to reach out especially rural entrepreneurs so that they can adapt online business while strengthening their products.”

Among the success stories of those who have used MYNIC’s services or joined its programs are DAPE Garage (http://dapegarage.my) and Loyang http://www.azizjaafar.my.

Mohd Afiq Barni from Double a Project Enterprise or DAPE Garage joined a training on how to build and manage a .MY website for his business.

Prior to the training he attended, he was running his business conventionally as well as by using social medias and marketplaces.

Two months after his website went LIVE, it recorded 116,000 visitors. His website has helped him increase his business’s visibility, drive new demands and leads.

In fact, Afiq shared that since he started the website, the business experienced an increase in sales from RM8,000 to RM10,000 per month, to RM25,000 RM30,000 per month and increase RM100,000 revenue for May 2021 itself.

As for Loyang, it is a traditional family business managed by Rosliza Osman.

They manufactured an aluminum ‘loyang’ in a small scale and have been in the business for more than 20 years.

Following participation in the training, their company’s visibility increased by up to RM10,000 per month.

During Ramadhan, their business received an order amounting to RM50,000 not only from local but also from other countries such as Brunei, Singapore, Egypt and Australia.

“With the pandemic, digitalisation is inevitable, and at MYNIC, we want to enable digital inclusivity to Bumiputera MSMEs out there,” the agency concluded.

“Not only will these MSMEs be able to reach a wider market, but they will also be able to reap other benefits such as an increase in sales and revenue.

“Therefore, to increase the adoption of .MY in Malaysia during pandemic, especially in helping Bumiputera MSMEs to be prepared for the digital economy, MYNIC had contributed 20,000 domain names to enable the participants to establish their digital presence.

“With that, MYNIC helped Malaysians to digitally empower themselves and continue with outreach efforts to train aspiring entrepreneurs among rural and disabled communities to set up and transform their businesses from offline to online.”
