KUCHING (Aug 23): An unemployed man was fined RM3,000 in default three months’ jail by the Magistrates’ Court here today for committing criminal intimidation by pointing a folding knife at his mother’s neck.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi convicted Abdul Rashid Daud @ Dawok, 35, on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which provides for an imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

He committed the offence at his family’s house in Kampung Tupong Batu in Petra Jaya at around 7am on Aug 19, this year.

Based on the facts of the case, Abdul Rashid had ran amok and pointed a folding knife at his 70-year-old mother’s neck if she refused to hand over money that he had asked from her.

Fearing for her safety, Abdul Rashid’s mother lodged a police report and he was subsequently arrested on Aug 20, this year.

It is learnt that Abdul Rashid was also involved in drug-related activities.

ASP Rogayah Rosli prosecuted the case while Abdul Rashid was unrepresented by a counsel.
