KUCHING (Aug 24): Police here are tracking down a male suspect who snatched a woman’s handbag after forcing her to stop on the road by rear-ending her vehicle.

In a statement today, Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the act was recorded in a 27 second video clip recorded on the victim’s dash-cam and then shared on Facebook.

In the video, the suspect, who was wearing a yellow helmet and a grey and white long sleeved T-shirt, can be seen running towards his motorcycle after he managed to snatch the victim’s handbag.

Seconds later, the victim can also be seen trying to chase down the suspect on foot until a T-junction.

However, the suspect managed to speed up to flee the scene, which is believed to be a residential area in Stampin.

“We have opened three investigation papers under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery without a weapon,” said Ahsmon.

If convicted, the suspect could face a jail sentence of up to 14 years and he shall also be liable to a fine or to caning.

Ahsmon also urged the public to head to the nearest police station if they have any information on the suspect.
