KUCHING (Aug 24): Sarawakian Evelyn Ting has been selected as a finalist for the Miss World Malaysia Grand Finals, which will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu on Saturday (Aug 27).

Ting, 25, graduated with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Physiology from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Nursing from the University of Sydney in Australia.

She worked as a registered nurse in Sydney upon graduating and was soon thrown into the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Separated from her family in Kuching, Ting focused her efforts on establishing a vaccination centre in Sydney.

Having administered thousands of vaccines to the community, she was a confidant of many patients who struggled from the mental stresses that the lockdown had imposed on them.

“I hope to uphold the values of women’s empowerment, which Miss World stands for, and use this important platform to shed a light on mental health awareness,” she said.

Ting was granted the title Miss World Sarawak 2022 for garnering the most online votes during the semifinals of the world’s longest running beauty pageant.

On the experience so far, Ting said she is thankful.

“I am so overwhelmed and grateful for the opportunity to join this prestigious pageant with the other gorgeous finalists,” said Ting, who is currently in Kota Kinabalu.

The final score will be tallied from a combination of online votes and live judging.
