BUKIT JALIL (Sept 15): Sarawak’s wait for its first gold medal at the 20th Sukma ended today thanks to Jonah Chang Rigan, who bagged the men’s shot put gold with his best throw of 16.65m in his fourth attempt at Bukit Jalil National Stadium today.

Earlier, Vanessa Niega Franky delivered the state contingent’s first athletics medal when she registered a throw of 35.38m in the women’s discus.

Johor’s Nur Atiqah Sufiah Md Hanizam bagged the gold medal with a distance of 44.99m, while Nani Sahirah Maryata took the silver with a distance of 39.97m.

Jonah with his father Rigan Lewi, mother Renai Bilong, and sister Sharon Tra who were there to support him.
