SIBU (Jan 19): A man was killed and his wife injured after the car they were travelling in was involved in a single vehicle accident at Mile 8, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here around 6am today.
The man in his 40s is believed to have somehow lost control of the vehicle, leading it to plunge into a roadside earth drain.
Passers-by managed to help pull both victims to safety after the vehicle became submerged in several metres of water.
Both husband and wife, who are teachers, were then rushed to Sibu Hospital.
However, the man was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, while the woman was treated for her injuries.
It is believed that they were on the way to their school in Sibu Jaya when the mishap occurred.
