Police seize 214 cartons duty-unpaid beer from Mukah house

SIBU (Jan 20): A joint team from the Region Five Marine Police and Mukah District police headquarters seized 214 cartons of contraband beer worth over RM35,000 from a house in Mukah around 11am yesterday.

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said following a tip-off and surveillance, police raided the house at Jalan Pam Stesen Lama under Op Kontraban and found two locked stores.

“The result of the inspection found various brands of alcohol totalling 214 cartons, believed to be duty unpaid, estimated to be worth RM35,321.30,” he said in a statement.

Muhamad Rizal said as there was no one at the residence during the raid, no arrests were made.

All seized items were brought to the Mukah police headquarters.

The case has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967.
