KUCHING (Jan 30): The Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 1,233 notices for various traffic offences throughout Sarawak during the Lunar New Year festival this year.
A department spokesperson said the notices were issued after 16,425 vehicles were inspected since last week.
Drivers of vehicles recorded the highest number of offences with 617 notices issued, while 478 notices were issued to motorcyclists.
“Eleven notices were issued for bus drivers, 125 notices for commercial vehicles, and two notices for other types of vehicles,” said the spokesperson in a statement.
The majority of the notices were issued for failing to show driving licences when instructed, expired road tax, expired third party car insurance, and overtaking at double lines, among others.
JPJ also seized 35 vehicles during their operations for the festival.
“The vehicles seized are 25 motorcycles, seven cars, and three lorries. A total of 125 officers and personnel were involved in the operations across Sarawak,” said the spokesperson.
The spokesperson advised road users to always obey traffic regulations and added JPJ would continue to carry out enforcement operations to ensure compliance with the law.
