PDP’s CNY open house in Bintulu hosts 15,000 guests

BINTULU (Jan 30): The sounds of drums accompanying the lion dance performance and the festive songs filled the air during the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP)’s Chinese New Year 2023 Open House at the civic centre here yesterday.

The event hosted some 15,000 people coming from all walks of life, with many of them converging on the ground as early as 8am.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang attended the open house as the guests-of-honour, and they were welcomed by federal Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, who is Bintulu MP and also PDP president.

Among the dignitaries were Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi; Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi; Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Minister in Sarawak Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai, and also State Secretary Dato Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

Abang Johari and the other guests later attended another Chinese New Year open house hosted by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Tanjong Batu branch, at Dinner World Restaurant.

Over 2,000 people joined in the celebration.
