Man in Kuching jailed eight months for hurting father

KUCHING (Feb 6): A 38-year-old man was sentenced to eight months’ jail by the Magistrates’ Court here today for hurting his sexagenarian father last year.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar meted out the sentence against Razmy Selamat after he pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code was read to him by a court interpreter.

The Section, read together with Section 326A of the same Act provides for a jail term up to a year with fine up to RM2,000, upon conviction.

Zaiton also ordered Ramzy’s jail sentence to take effect from the date of his arrest.

Based on the facts of the case, Razmy ran amok at his family’s house in Bandar Baru Semariang, Phase 1, Jalan Sultan Tengah at around 11pm on Nov 27, 2022.

When his 61-year-old father tried to calm him down, Razmy responded by throwing a mobile phone which struck his father’s head.

He was arrested at around 11.25pm following a police report lodged by his father.

It was informed the accused had been involved in drug-related activities.

Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while Razmy was unrepresented by a legal counsel.
