SIBU (Feb 7): A total of 150 Malaysian Armed Forces veterans from Kapit, Kanowit, Lanang, Nangka, Sarikei and Matu Daro branches yesterday received charitable donations in the form of financial assistance.

They received the donations during Boustead Plantations Berhad’s (BPB) zakat aid presentation ceremony at a hotel here.

The zakat donations were presented by BPB Corporate Communications head Hazranshah Abd Hamid, witnessed by the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM) president Captain (B) Datuk Sharuddin Omar and Sarawak State PVATM president Jimbau Galau.

In his speech, Sharuddin expressed his appreciation and gratitude to BPB for treating the members and widows of ATM Veterans as part of the company’s social responsibility (CSR) programme.

Indeed this aid, he said, gave a morale boost and can lighten the cost of living among poor veterans.

“The zakat giving programme by BPB will be implemented throughout the country, especially in areas where there are BPB farms.

“This programme started in Sabah in 2022 in Tawau, Semporna and Sandakan, while the next one will take place in Penang on February 12, 2023,” he said.

Yesterday’s programme was for veterans in the Central Zone (Sibu) area involving six PVATM branches. A similar programme will be held in the Northern Zone (Miri) area in the near future.

Also present at the ceremony were PVATM head of Information Brigadier General (B) Datuk Mohd Bustaman Mat Zin, head of Business Unit Boustead Pelita Kanowit (BPK) Mohd Yatim Saini along with nine BPB farm managers in Sibu area, and PVATM branch heads from Kapit, Kanowit, Lanang, Nangka, Sarikei and Matu Daro.
