SIBU (March 23): A 34-year-old contractor here has lodged a police report claiming to have lost RM5,538 to an online investment scam.
The victim said he came across the online investment while browsing the Internet around 11pm last Saturday at his home in Jalan Salim.
“I was attracted by an online advertisement, which offered a 10 per cent return,” he said.
The victim then contacted an agent via WhatsApp and was told to make payments to the given bank accounts.
Over a three-day period, he would deposit RM300, RM2,238, and RM3,000 into the accounts.
He only realised he had been duped after he was told to make a further payment to get the returns.
