KUCHING (March 25): A fire destroyed a two-storey wooden house at Rumah Lintong Nanga Kesit in Lubok Antu at 2.50am this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said the two occupants were inside the house when the fire started but managed to flee the fiery blaze.

However, one of them, a 50-year-old man, sustained burn injuries to the face and hand when escaping the house.

He was later sent to a nearby clinic for medical attention.

As the location of the fire was about 70 kilometres from the Betong fire station, Bomba only managed to arrive at the scene at 4am and were greeted by a heavy downpour.

The house was also about 400 metres from the main road and only accessible by walking along a hanging bridge.

By using two water nozzles with water pumped from a nearby source, Bomba managed to put the fire under control at 5.40am.

After ensuring the fire was fully extinguished, Bomba wrapped up operations at 6.30am.

It was determined that the house measuring 148 square metres was 90 per cent destroyed by the fire.
