Pedestrian killed in Kuching accident identified as Indonesian lawmaker Arkadius Mungpin

KUCHING (April 16): The pedestrian who was killed at Jalan Rock here after being hit by an oncoming pick-up truck while trying to cross the road on yesterday morning has been identified as Indonesian lawmaker, Arkadius Mungpin, 44.

Tribun Pontianak, in a report, said Arkadius, who was from the Golkar party, was the people’s representative (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah) for Sanggau in West Kalimantan.

According to the report, Arkadius was crossing the road for breakfast at the Central Park Commercial Centre here when he was knocked down by the pick-up truck.

It was also mentioned that he might have been in Kuching for medical purposes.

Arkadius was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Sarawak General Hospital and his body was transported to the hospital’s forensics department for further action.

It is learnt today that arrangement is underway to transport the deceased’s body back to Indonesian via the border in Entikong.

Yesterday, Kuching district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said they are currently investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
