SIBU (Oct 1): The profound sense of togetherness advocated via the events in Sibu Jaya meant to strengthen the bonds amongst the people of this township, regardless of age, race, religion or other social backgrounds.
This was highlighted Amcorp Group executive chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim in his opening speech for the recent Sibu Jaya Concert 2024.
“As what Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had said last year, all of us can live together as one family under the same roof, under the spirit of ‘Segulai Sejalai’ (Together As One), and this is what Sibu Jaya stands for,” he said.
Amcorp is the master developer of Sibu Jaya, under a collaboration with Sarawak’s Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Azman also expressed gratitude for the continued support from and engagement by the local community, as well as for the tireless efforts by various stakeholders in running many events in Sibu Jaya such as the water fiesta, motocross and carnivals.
“I must thank Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, for officiating at every Sibu Jaya’s ‘Water Fiesta’ opening ceremony, for three consecutive years.
“Our appreciation also goes to the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and the dedicated teachers and students of Sibu Jaya’s schools: SMK Sibu Jaya, SK Sibu Jaya, and SJKC Thian Hua – all of whom have made significant contributions to the success of the event.
“Every entity plays a crucial part, leading to success of the event. As such, I acknowledge the collaborative efforts involving the organisers, the PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police) and Rela (People’s Volunteers Corps), the Health Ministry, Sarawak Energy Bhd, Sibu Water Board, as well as other relevant government departments and agencies, in ensuring the safety and smooth execution of the events in Sibu Jaya.”
On the township’s socio-economy, Azman said the opening up of more commercial and residential properties signified a thriving Sibu Jaya, where people had access to employment and other opportunities.
“The community’s growth, peace and shared prosperity should serve as a model for the rest of Malaysia,” he said.
The concert, which took place Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre in Sibu Jaya, gathered some 12,000 spectators.
Among those present at the opening ceremony were a political secretary to Sarawak’s Premier, Joshua Ting; SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai; AmBank Group chairman Tan Sri Md Nor Md Yusof and his wife Puan Sri Shahrulbariah Mohd Nawawi; HDC chief executive officer Fathi Hambali; HDCam Sdn Bhd director Dato Che Md Nawawi Ismail; Amcorp Group chief executive officer Azlan Baqee; and local community leader Pemanca Datuk Jason Tai, also Pansar Group’s managing director.
