KOTA KINABALU (Nov 1): The remarkable success of Dr Sabrina Mohammad stands as an inspiration for Sabah’s youth, especially women and Persons with Disabilities (OKU), proving that physical limitations are no obstacle to achieving excellence in academics and leadership.
Originally from Kampung Gudon, Sepanggar, and now residing in Sandakan, Dr Sabrina — who lives with a physical disability — has turned every challenge into a stepping stone, driving her to excel in academia and social advocacy.
In student leadership, Dr Sabrina made history as the first female OKU elected president of the Postgraduate Student Association for the 2022–2024 term after winning decisively in her university’s campus election. Her victory marked more than a personal milestone; it was proof that true leadership transcends physical boundaries.
University lecturers have lauded her as an exemplary student who combines academic brilliance with strong leadership.
“She excels not only in her studies but also demonstrates deep social awareness and the courage to lead — inspiring both female and male peers alike. Dr Sabrina is a shining example of a future leader,” said one of her former lecturers.
Beyond campus, Dr Sabrina has been active in various NGO initiatives across Kota Kinabalu and Sepanggar, focusing on social development, community education, and grassroots health awareness.
For her, true leadership means creating change and inspiring others.
“I want young women and the OKU community to know that we are not limited — we just move differently,” she said.
Dr Sabrina completed her Master’s degree in Political Science (International Relations & Diplomacy) at UiTM Shah Alam in 2024 and is now pursuing a PhD in Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
Since 2023, she has also served as the Health Liaison Officer to the Minister of Community Development and People’s Wellbeing, who is also the State Executive Councillor for Health.
Earlier in 2025, she made history again as the first OKU medical doctor to serve Malaysian pilgrims during the Hajj season in Saudi Arabia.
Her journey embodies the power of knowledge, perseverance and resilience — transforming challenges into strength and making Dr Sabrina a symbol of courage and inspiration for all Sabahans.
