MIRI (Nov 16): The Sarawak United Peoples’ party (SUPP) Pujut branch and disaster response team will continue engaging with residents affected by the Kampung Wireless fire to understand their needs and provide necessary assistance.
Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang, when visiting the displaced victims at the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri this morning, said constant communication is needed to understand their situations and needs.
“Currently, around 27 victims are still staying at the evacuation centre at MRC Miri, while the rest have temporarily moved in with relatives or family members. This group includes infants, children and young dependents.
“Hence, the assistance provided to the victims, special attention will be given to infants, children and the vulnerable,” he said.
Yii also expressed his gratitude to Centus Marine, an offshore oil and gas service company, for voluntarily assisting in the firefighting efforts.
The company deployed one of its vessels, equipped with a powerful firefighting system, to help control the flames from the river — playing a crucial role in preventing the fire from spreading further.
“Often, when fire engines are dispatched, they encounter narrow or congested roads that may slow down their arrival.
“The assistance from the Centus Marine was a great help, and we are truly grateful,” he said.
Yii also revealed that his team will continue monitoring the resettlement and support efforts to ensure the victims can resume normal lives as soon as possible.
