BINTULU (Aug 23): The spirit of National Day and flying the Jalur Gemilang should be celebrated with the support and cooperation of all parties, said Sarawak Information Department director Jaafar Jantan.
According to him, the National Day and Malaysia Day theme ‘Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama’ (Malaysian Family Stronger Together) shows that support is needed not only from government agencies but also non-governmental organisations, as well as the corporate and private sectors.
He said the department is collaborating for the first time with Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) for the Kembara Merdeka Keluarga Malaysia 2022 (KMKM 2022) state-level programme.
“Thank God we received good cooperation from BPHB and Bank Rakyat to implement KMKM2022 this year and I am sure this cooperation will not be the last,” he said during a dinner to celebrate the KMKM2022 convoy on Monday night.
“I hope that BPHB’s move in supporting and collaborating for national-level programmes like this will be an example for other corporate sectors to join JaPen in similar programmes in the future.”
Jaafar said there will be a strong spirit of nationalism with the support of the Malaysian Family.
He added the department would continue sharing information through 246 Malaysian Family Communities throughout Sarawak.
BPHB Group chief executive officer Dato Mohamad Medan Abdullah said BPHB was very pleased that Bintulu Port was chosen as a stopover location for the KMKM2022 convoy.
“In conjunction with the launching of National Month and Flying Jalur Gemilang 2022 state-level, which was graced by Sarawak Premier at Kuching Waterfront and Sarawak State Legislative Assembly on Aug 13, we have sponsored shirts as a sign of support for the programme.
“The sponsorship is one of our company’s corporate social responsibility programmes and it is hoped that it will further strengthen the good relationship between BPHB and JaPen,” he said.
The 34-member convoy arrived here at 2pm yesterday.
Bintulu is the convoy’s 28th stop before heading to Belaga.
