SIBU (Dec 29): Seasoned campaigners Ng Hong Man and Mark Yeo are facing off in the final of the 2nd NT Sibu Closed Snooker Championship to be played at NT Snooker Centre here on Saturday night.
In the semi-finals, Ng cruised past Preet Rathore 3-0 (65-45, 53-40, 59-48) while Yeo had a tighter contest before overcoming Thomas Lee 3-1 (53-54, 78-66, 67-45, 63-23) on Friday night.
On paper, there is little to separate the two finalists.
The flamboyant Ng aka ‘Panjang Seng’ has a greater reach advantage while Yeo is known for his aggressive and temperamental style of play.
“It’s going to be a tough battle ahead and, hopefully, I will be able to stay focused and display my true abilities during the final showdown,” said Yeo who had just won the recent 11th edition of Swan City Closed Snooker Championship.
Ng, who is the defending champion after winning the 1st edition held earlier this year, is determined to avoid the erratic play that can sink his game at times.
The two-week long tournament attracted more than 30 players.
Cash prizes include RM1,500 for the champion, RM700 (runner-up), RM350 (third), RM100 each (losing quarter-finalists) and RM50 each for those who made the last 16.
