SIBU (June 29): Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong Branch chairman and Sibu Rural District Council deputy chairman, Wong Ching Yong, recently led a delegation to conduct on-site inspections at Rumah Luang and Rumah Badong.
The visit aimed to assess construction progress and address any technical challenges or material shortages.
The inspection team included SUPP Dudong member Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck, councillors Jason Tay and Yiing Sy Huat, and SUPP Dudong Youth members.
During the visit, the Tuai Rumah (longhouse chieftain) of Rumah Luang expressed gratitude to Wong, noting that with his assistance, the longhouse had expanded from 20 to 24 household units — reflecting a growing and united community.
Meanwhile, residents of Rumah Badong raised concerns over a shortage of building materials.
In response, Wong assured them that he would report the matter to the relevant authorities and explore the possibility of support under the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) loan scheme to resolve the issue and prevent project delays.
“Improving living conditions for rural longhouse residents is crucial to promoting balanced societal development,” he said.
Wong also reiterated that SUPP Dudong and Sibu Jaya branches would maintain close collaboration with relevant agencies to effectively convey the voices of the people and fulfil its commitment to grassroots development.
